OncLive, the official website for several cancer-focused trade publications, has named Everett Vokes, MD, the John E. Ultmann Professor of Medicine and Radiation Oncology, Physician-in-Chief, and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago Medicine, one of 12 Giants of Cancer Care for 2013.
The awards recognize and celebrate individuals who have achieved “landmark success within the field of oncology.”
The recipients, according to OncLive Chairman and CEO Mike Hennessy, have “dedicated their lives to improving the quality and quantity of life for cancer patients.”
The honorees were chosen by an advisory panel of oncology educators, clinicians and researchers. Criteria for selection were a large body of pioneering work or a significant innovative contribution to patient care, clinical trials or translational research.
Vokes was selected for his innovations in the use of concomitant chemoradiation therapy for head and neck cancers.
Each recipient will be profiled in a November 2013 special edition of OncologyLive and prominently featured on OncLive.com.
