This year, Nursing’s Shared Governance’s (SG) holiday fundraising project will be to raise funds for personal hygiene packs for Chicago Public School (CPS) students, grades 6-8, within our ZIP code area and neighboring communities. The UBC Chair group expressed an interest in getting involved in our local community and we’ve begun a relationship with CPS schools. The packs will provide items such as: toothpaste/brush, deodorant, soap, hair brush, dental floss, etc. To maintain continuity of items and discourage “pack envy,” we are raising funds to purchase the same hygiene items for each male or female pack.
Why Hygiene Packs?
Of the 13 Chicago Public Schools’ networks, our UCM service area (CPS Network #12) covers the area north/south between 67th to 98th Streets and east/west from Lake Michigan to the Dan Ryan Expressway. Network 12 supports 34 K-12 public schools. When surveying their schools, Network 12 discovered a common need was hygiene products and hygiene education.
Fundraising will take place November 1 -through November 30th. Items will be purchased after November 30th. Packs will be assembled at the SG workshop on December 12. Workshop location TBD. Please notify your UBC chair if you would like to be involved in pack assembly.
