Mary Lappe, BSN, RN, was awarded the Sandy Purl Spirit Award by the Chicago Chapter of Oncology Nursing (CCONS). This is a monetary award that was established by the CCONS in memory of Sandy Purl who passed away suddenly in June of 2010, in conjunction with the Oncology Nursing Society Foundation. Sandy was a role model to oncology nurses around the United States (not just Chicago) and a pivotal member of CCONS. The award recognizes nurses who demonstrate this type of passion in oncology nursing and want to mentor other nurses in their chapter.
