Awards, Presentations and Publications

Mary Lappe, BSN, RN, was awarded the Sandy Purl Spirit Award by the Chicago Chapter of Oncology Nursing (CCONS).  This is a monetary award that was established by the CCONS in memory of Sandy Purl who passed away suddenly in June of 2010, in conjunction with the Oncology Nursing Society Foundation.  Sandy was a role model to oncol­ogy nurses around the United States (not just Chicago) and a piv­otal mem­ber of CCONS.  The award rec­og­nizes nurses who demon­strate this type of pas­sion in oncol­ogy nurs­ing and want to men­tor other nurses in their chap­ter.


Danielle Miller, Mary Sandelski, Kenneth Nunes, Sharon Greene- Hughes, Sylvia Freeman, and Barbara Scavone’s abstract Massive Blood Transfusion in Labor and Delivery was accepted for poster presentation at the  Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative Annual Conference (ILPQC) on November 10, 2015.

Patience Tieri, Nancy Scott, Ashley Wahome, and Cedric MCCoy’s abstract Clot Busting: Enhancing Nursing Documentation was accepted for the State-of-the-Science Stoke Nursing Symposium in Nashville, TN in February 2015.

 Katherine Pakieser-Reed’s abstract, Inspiring Innovation: Creating the PRN Clinical Nurse Educator Role was accepted for podium presentation at the Association for Nursing Professional Development 2015 Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.

 Mary Ann Francisco, Monica Gonzalez, and Cynthia LaFond’s abstract Pause for POSS: Assessing Unintentional Sedation in Patients receiving Opioids was accepted for presentation at the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists 2015 Annual Conference, The Clinical Nurse Specialist: The Essence of Transformational Health Care on March 5 – 7, 2015 at Bay, Coronado, CA.

Emily Lowder, PhD, RN, was asked to be a keynote presenter for the 2015 Patient Flow Summit in May 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
